How Technology Helps Casinos Succeed

Casino is a fun, energetic place where people can let loose and try their luck at various games of chance. These establishments usually feature flashy decor, upbeat music and plenty of food and drink options. The atmosphere is a mix of people from all walks of life who are rubbing shoulders and sharing stories over cocktails or beer. While some of them may tut when their luck doesn’t turn out, others will strut around with confidence and hope to win big.

Casinos succeed by encouraging visitors to gamble and stay longer, and they make money from these bets. However, they also want to provide an enjoyable experience that will attract potential customers and make them return in the future. One way casinos accomplish both goals is with audio, lighting and visual (AVL) technologies that help shape the environment for guests to feel comfortable gambling.

Some casino patrons, either in collusion with each other or independently, are tempted to cheat or steal from the casino, even though these activities would hurt the business’s reputation. To prevent these problems, casinos have extensive security measures in place. Some of these are obvious, such as the cameras placed throughout the facility and other more subtle, like the video screens used to monitor casino game play.

While the violent scenes in Scorsese’s Casino are over-the-top, the movie is realistic in its portrayal of mafia activity at real casino locations. Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone deliver solid performances as mobster characters, while Joe Pesci’s Santoro adds to the tension of the film.
